Also commonly referred to as “monkey bars” or “climbing frames,” jungle gyms are designed for hanging, swinging, climbing and an altogether fun experience. Though more commonly used by children, jungle gyms are even sometimes implemented into physical therapy practices for older adults as a way to stay fit or increase flexibility and strength. If you’re looking for a great play area to bring your kids to, there is a number of surrounding parks and playgrounds that boast some of the best jungle gyms in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Located at Lee District Park, Chessie’s Big Backyard is a great place to bring the kids. The elaborate playground features a whole host of different kinds of jungle gym structures, slides and other playground pastimes. There are different areas for children of different ages, offering many different kinds of activities and diversions to pursue. The playground is situated on a safe, springy rubber matted ground, keeping kids buoyant and protected. There is plenty of seating for adults, as well as surrounding park and picnicking areas. Also, during warmer months there is an operational onsite splash park to enjoy.

Located near the American University Park, Turtle Park offers up an array of playground pastimes to partake in. Featured fun for all ages can be found here, even for the youngest of tykes. The playground also boasts of not one, but two state-of-the-art jungle gyms. One of the jungle gyms even has a tire obstacle course, and both have sliding boards. Other playground amenities include regular-sized and toddler-sized swings, a large sandbox, toddler vehicles and a stationary train with three separate cars.

At Wheaton Regional Park in Wheaton, MD, you will find Adventure Playground. A unique gem in the park, this amazing playground features three large jungle gym areas and other climbing features, including a climbing wall, netted ropes and more. You will also find a variety of different slides of many sizes, swings, gymnastic equipment and other classic playground favorites. Additionally, Adventure Playground has an area specifically designed for its youngest attendees, complete with a sandbox, concrete animals and other amusements. Wheaton Regional Park also boasts of other unique amenities including a miniature train, carousel and recreational courts.

Clemyjontri Park is a one-of-a-kind playground that offers something for everyone. From jungle gyms, swings, slides and more, this park also caters to children with special needs and physical handicaps. With special ramps for wheelchairs and walkers, high-back seats on some of the swings, braille signs and more, children of all abilities will enjoy Clemyjontri Park. The playground consists of two acres and offers many unique features including, but not limited to, a carousel, school playhouse and “Fit & Fun”, which is the largest piece of play equipment made up of various jungle gym components.
